Comparison of the Areas of Interest in Central Tokyo among Visitors by Country of Residence Using Geotagged Photographs

New information and communication technologies make it possible to conduct detailed analyses of the use space by visitors at different scales. For example, geotagged social media records can be used capture digital footprint human spatial behavior within a city. This study demonstrates potential these data using from photo-sharing services compare distribution according their country residence among three major tourism sites central Tokyo, namely. Shinjuku, Asakusa, Ginza. We classified photographs Flickr user profiles analyzing with geographical systems (GIS). then compared varying patterns groups residence: Japan, Asia, Europe. The results showed that both domestic foreign tended visit places close railroad stations. However, areas interest (AOI) for higher concentrations than those visitors. In Shinjuku Ginza, differences were seen between Asians Europeans in AOI, but no such observed Asakusa. These distinctions may attributable structures mode visitors’ activities.
